Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The V-1 flying bomb was an early cruise missile. Its official Reich Aviation Ministry (RLM) designation was Fieseler Fi 103 and its suggestive name was Höllenhund (hellhound). It was also known to the Allies as the buzz bomb or doodlebug. The V-1 was the first of the Vergeltungswaffen (V-weapons) deployed for the terror bombing of London. Due to its limited range, the thousands of V-1 missiles launched into England were fired from launch facilities along the French (Pas-de-Calais) and Dutch coasts or by modified He 111 aircraft.
This is a scarce piece of Trench art modeled directly after the V1 Flying Bomb. It sits on a ramped stand and the entire piece measures roughly 6¾ x 4 x 2½”. The front end of the stand and the tip of the rocket shows heavy oxidation. A very interesting piece of trench art modeled after a very well-known piece of technology developed during the war. Comes ready for further research and display.
